A Cosmic Grandfather

770) Some people were raised to believe that God sits up in heaven, watching people and is poised to zap anyone who does something wrong. I know very few people would admit or acknowledge this, but in words and actions, this is the conclusion. A few others were raised to believe that God is like a cosmic grandfather, looking down at those on earth with warmth, overlooking obvious bad choices. But what if both things are true or both are false?

Psalm 33:14 tells us specifically that God looks down and sees mankind. What does He see? He sees sacrificial giving and wanton stealing. He sees hard work and slothfulness. God also sees the beauty of loving someone who dislikes you and bitter revenge. This verse tells us that God sees everything, not as some cosmic grandfather, but as a just, loving, and powerful God.

If we kept these things in the front of our minds, perhaps we would make different choices within each day.
