743) As a teacher, I can think of one job that I would never want to do, and that is to be a school bus driver. For any of you who have taken on this daunting job, God bless you for it! I tell my students that I wouldn’t care if the job paid a million dollars, I won’t do it. Would you?
Being a school bus driver is one example of a job I wouldn’t want, but what would I do if God asks me to drive a school bus? (And, please God, have mercy on me and the potential kids that would ride my bus.) I would hope that I would do the job God asks me to do, but I would have to be very convinced that this is what God was asking.
In Esther 2, I find another “job” that would not be one I would want and that is to be the Queen for King Xerxes. In the first chapter of the book, he ditches Queen Vashti because she refused to continue doing the job the king had for her and that is taking on the title of his “trophy wife.” I’m also sure that the king was not solely wanting to have his people just look at her. I’m thinking that there was a lot of touching and catcalling, etc. This is the job that God is asking Esther to do.
If I were Esther, I would have an anxiety attack. Certainly, God would not call me to this lifestyle, and yet, this job is exactly what God needed to fill. He ultimately protects Esther from many things but she didn’t know this when she said, “yes.” God uses her to deliver his people from extermination.
What job has God been asking you to do that you have refused?
