The Price of Faith

728) Faith is easy, right? You just close your eyes real tight and wish with all your might. No? That’s not faith? Well… what is it?

Faith is illustrated in 1 Kings 17:7-14. There was a famine in the land and Elijah and the people faced a life-or-death crisis. One day, he came upon a widow and asked for some food. She tells him that all she has left is for her and her son to have a last meal. Elijah tells her that God will not allow her flour and oil supply to run out. But here’s the tricky part. Elijah asks her to make him some bread first with what she currently had.

What do you suppose went through that widow’s mind? Was she frantic? Had she already lost all hope and didn’t care? Was she resentful of this request? I don’t know the answer to these questions but I know that this widow had faith; she trusted God and took Him at His word, even at the point of her and her son dying.

Sometimes God asks us to trust Him in very difficult circumstances but He always asks us to do what is best for us. Most importantly, He will keep His promises to you.
