The Nature of Rocks

719) I live in Maine and I find it interesting that we do not have any nicknames involving the word, rock, or similar words. After all, New Hampshire is the Granite State, and yet, everywhere in Maine, you will find rocks. You don’t believe me? Just check out the blueberry barrens we have here and you can see thousands of them.

In reflecting on this, I am reminded of how much the word “rock” is used these days. I will often see posts on social media with statements such as, “so-and-so is my rock.” Or, “you are going to rock that outfit,” to name a few. David understood the nature of rocks. If they are big enough, they are solid and very difficult to move. They are often fortresses and if you’ve ever banged into one, as I did with my shoulder while camping one year, you know intimately the composition of them. In 2 Samuel 22:47, David calls God his rock. He knew God is solid, unmovable and a fortress. I’d much rather be safe in a city with huge rock walls than one with barbed wire. Rocks are protectors; God longs to build a solid wall of protection around you if you’ll let Him.
