706) When you are in college, one of the go-to questions you ask when you meet someone new is, what is your major? The reply might be, an engineer, a nurse, a teacher, a doctor. There is, of course, nothing wrong with doing any of these things as a career. But what if God were to ask you to be a stay-at-home mom, a cleaner at a business, or a painter of houses? These important jobs can be seen as unimportant in the uninformed eye. Anything that God asks his children to do is important.
In 1 Samuel 16:14-23, David has been moved from the fields to being a type of valet to King Saul. He holds his armor (I picture being a caddy here), plays the lyre and does just about anything “unimportant” for Saul. It is interesting to note that all David did in God’s service was important and we, too, who are followers of God, should be reminded that there’s no such thing as an unimportant job. All things done for God are equally important.
