692) I have had the honor of being taught music and voice by a professional with a myriad of credentials that he rarely talks about. He would often say to me while having a lesson, “You need to tell the story” of the song we were working on. After each lesson, I would ponder the things I learned that day.
In considering the admonition, “Tell the story,” I have discovered that music is so important because it delivers a message or story in a way that engages all of the senses. It’s similar in the classroom. If I can find a medium that would convey the aim of my lesson, my students are much more likely to engage with the topic and carry it with them beyond my classroom.
In Judges 5, the judge Deborah tells the Israelites’ story in their recent history with a song. Each verse of the chapter and song outlines how God has worked for His people, and these individuals become better people and a stronger nation because of this.
Dare to tell the story of what God has done for you–even if it can’t always be in a song.
