Remember?

682) Our memory is a funny thing. Sometimes we can remember things so vividly that we can see them in our heads, feeling and even smelling some of them as if they just happened. At other times, we have no memory of events that others who were involved distinctly remember. And finally, sometimes we need to just pause and reflect on specific subjects within our memory in order to give us an advantage in the here and now.

The incident in Numbers 20 illustrates how taking the time to reflect on memories can be vital. Once again, God’s people are complaining in the desert that they have nothing to drink. Instead of looking back on their personal history, seeing how God supplied all their needs from Egypt until this date, they verbalize their unhappiness. God, in all of His grace and patience, once again takes care of Israel. Perhaps this will be enough to remind them that God always provides what they need, when they need it. How’s your memory?
